*Due to current issue with the Covid-19 virus, classes have been suspended till further notice, and continue privately with current students only on zoom. The classes will start again when the school re-opens it’s doors for us when it is safer to do so.

Zabeth runs regular tai chi classes, which include qigong, for beginners through to advance students during term times at Oaklands Community Primary School, Preston Grove, Yeovil, Somerset BA20 2DU.

Weekly Tai Chi classes with Zabeth in Yeovil:

Tai chi classes – for beginners

Wednesday evening – 6:30 pm 7.30pm

The first half hour of the beginners class covers warm up exercises, which are frequently qigong exercises, and a wide variety of qigong over each terms. The second half hour covers beginners Yang Style tai chi forms such as:

  • The small 4 tai chi forms for new beginners,

  • Mrs Bao’s 10 tai chi forms,

  • Chinese official 10 tai chi forms,

  • & the extended Chinese official 10 tai chi forms.

Tai chi Classes – for improvers

Wednesday evening – 6:30 pm 8pm

Once students are confident with both 10 tai chi forms, they can start extending their sessions by staying on to the first half an hour of second improvers/advance class and start learning

  • The Standard 24 tai chi forms.

And when they are confident with that they can switch over to the second class only from 7.30 pm to 8.55 pm.

Tai chi classes – for improvers/advance

Wednesday evening – 7:30 pm to 8.55 pm

This class starts with tai chi, which covers mostly Yang Style tai chi. Once students have moved to the second class, they need to do their own warm up prior to 7.30 pm, and can arrive early to do so in the entrance hall. The qigong section of this class happens at the end of the class as a chilling down section.

The tai chi forms covered over the second class are:

  • The Standard 24 tai chi forms in the first half an hour.

Then a variety of forms are covered over several weeks, learning and “polishing” tai chi forms which can include:

  • 88 tai chi forms – Yang Style,

  • 16 Yang Style tai chi forms,

  • The English simplified compact 24 Yang Style tai chi forms,

  • 32 tai chi formscombined Styles mostly Yang, but with elements of Chen, Sun and Wu,

  • 18 & 32 tai chi sword – Yang Style,

  • Sabre (broad sword) forms – Wu Style,

  • Double fans forms,

  • kung Fu Fan.

Qigong (chi-kung) sequences/forms covered:

  • Yangsheng Gong Taiji & Qigong warm-up exercises – developed by and learnt from Professor Hu Xiaofei from Beijing Sports University,

  • Baduanjin Qigongworking through the TCM 5 elements – (traditional – Song dynasty, 960 till 1279) several versions of the sequence are practised in our classes, including Professor Zhang Guangde and the Chinese Health Qigong Association’s version,

  • 12 Steps Daoyin Health Preservation Qigong Exercisesdeveloped by Professor Zhang Guangde from Beijing Sports University for the Chinese Health Qigong Association,

  • Dao Yin Bao Jian Gong – the 1st form for general health set developed by Professor Zhang Guangde from Beijing Sports University,

  • “Soaring” White Crane Qigong – as taught by Angus Clark.

  • 5 Elements Qigong – working through TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine 5 elements, which are Earth, Metal, Water, Wood & Fire),

  • Zhi Neng Qigong – developed by Dr. Pang He Ming and learnt by and taught as Master Liu Yugui (Geneva) & Liu Jianshe (China),

  • Dragon and Tiger Medical Qigong, as taught by Bruce Frantzis & Jane Robinson a 1,500 years old self-healing qigong system working along the acupuncture meridian lines,

  • Wu Qin Xi – 5 Animals Play qigong (tiger, deer, bear, monkey & bird) from the Chinese Health Qigong Association,

  • Fragrant qigong (Aromatic qigong, Xiang Gong or Xianggong)

  • Tonggong (the Old Man’s Breathing qigong) – as taught by Richard Bertchinger.

  • Tai Chi Ruler – a qigong exercise practised with a tai chi ruler to build internal Qi.

  • 18 movements of Yang style tai chi qigong (also known as Shibashi 1) – developed by Sifu Lin HouSheng

  • 18 movements of Chen style tai chi qigong (also known as Shibashi 2) – developed by Sifu Lin HouSheng.

  • Winter Brocade Qigong – as taught by Richard Bertchinger. from Gia-fu Feng.

  • Yin & Yang Brocade Qigong – the balance of yin & yang energies.

  • Mountain Top qigong as taught by Angus Clark & Jane Robinson,

  • The Four Waves and Three Circles qigong,

  • The Fisherman’s Routine qigong – developed by Tim Prescott,

  • Qigong exercises – as taught by various teachers,

  • Zhan Zhuang – standing still postures, i.e. standing like a tree.

  • The standard 24 Yang style tai chi forms, created by Master Li Tianji (nicknamed Lung Fei from which our club holds it’s name),

  • The English simplified compact 24 tai chi forms – created by Jifu Huang, (composed of the beginning of the 88 tai chi forms, two moves further along that set and the end of the Standard 24 forms with a section taken out),

  • The 88 Yang style tai chi forms – the long form,

  • The 32 tai chi formscombined styles mostly Yang, but with elements of Chen, Sun and Wu, created by the Chinese National Wushu Association,

  • The 40 Yang style International Competition forms – (old Yang style tai chi),

  • The 18 Yang styles tai chi straight sword forms,

  • The 32 Yang styles tai chi straight sword forms, created by Master Li Tianji (nicknamed Lung Fei from which our club holds it’s name),

  • The Wu style sabre (broad sword) tai chi forms,

  • Double fans tai chi forms,

  • Kung Fu Fan 1 as taught by Master Faye Yip, daughter of Professor Li Deyin who created the sequence.

Along with Zabeth’s teaching of the various forms mentioned, there will be added variety in learning with other sequences that will improve all students’ awareness to how the movements link together and work to help the body and focus the mind.

Any of the following could be incorporated within a class if relevant to the session in question:

  • Tai chi & qigong principles and correct body alignment in our practice,

  • Information of the links in qigong & tai chi to the Five Elements of TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), which are Earth, Metal, Water, Wood & Fire – i.e. where the channels are, breathing the associated colour in qigong exercises, etc.

  • Tai chi & qigong practice using the principles of the Western Four Elements – Air, Earth, Water & Fire,

  • The specific health benefits with some qigong sets of exercises, and practising separate exercises to help specific conditions, etc.

  • Rudimentary explanations and demonstration of the self-defence aspect of some basic tai chi forms,

  • Tai chi ruler (which is not tai chi, but a qigong practice),

  • Energy visualisation (shower imagery),

  • Zhang Zhong practice (holding a posture) to build energy levels,

  • Sensing our own energy field,

  • Meridian Patting sequence,

  • Tai chi walking practice,

  • and much more.
